Winter Break Training Week #1

Wow! We have had a busy week in the pool. We started the week with over 4,000 yards in less than 2 hours. We moved through the week working on butterfly – lots of drills, kicks, and work with fins – backstroke – more drills – breaststroke – more kicking and drills. It has been a productive week with swimmers starting to clean up their strokes and be more efficient in the water.

We appreciate everyone making an effort to be at practices during break. We really do get a lot done with consistency. There will be a couple changes to the calendar for the first week of January and I will have those published soon.

GLSC registration dates and information will also be published on the calendar. We are looking forward to seeing all of the swimmers again!

Keep up the great work everyone!

Welcome Back!!

Wow! I can hardly believe that summer is beginning to wind down – the days are already getting shorter and the weather is noticeably cooler. I hope that everyone has had a fun, refreshing, and exciting summer break! I know several of you went to swim camps and I can’t wait to hear about your experiences.

Fall registration for GLSC is next week (just around the corner). Returning swimmers will register on Wednesday and swim on Thursday. NEW swimmers to GLSC will come in for registration on Thursday, Sept. 8th. This will give us an opportunity to evaluate your swimmer and determine the best training group for their success.

The pool did have some renovations done over the summer and is looking good! There will be some new coaching faces on deck as well – we will welcome Lauren (here in the summer) and John to our staff. Our training schedule for September is a bit hectic, but we will do the best we can to maintain some consistency.

Many of you will just be getting back in the water from a longer break, so much of our focus will be getting the strokes back to where they look beautiful! We have some new training videos that will help. We will continue with dry-land for the Comets (and some for the Challengers) with a focus on building core strength.

We have a few dual meets set up and will need lots of parent-volunteers to make them run smoothly. We also have scheduled USS meets and are encouraging EVERYONE to give them a try – if you haven’t already. Meets are a great way for coaches and swimmers to evaluate their progress and determine next steps in training – plus they are fun!

I can’t wait to see everyone again and look forward to another fun and exciting season!

Final Week of This Session

Monday will be Family Fun Night – an organized fun time for swimmers and family who would like to join in. Family Fun Night will be from 6-7. There will be fun relays and games!

There is no practice on Tuesday because there is a home water polo match – if you have time, check out the game!

Thursday is our season banquet – it will be held in the Beagle Elementary cafeteria.  Please RSVP if you plan on attending.

Our Spring session will begin after spring break – Monday, April 11th is registration. The Spring calendar will be posted soon. Spring training takes us back to stroke technique, skill building, and gaining endurance. We want to make sure that we get back to good swimming habits – tight streamlines, high elbows, long reaches, strong kicks!

Hope that everyone had a great weekend – and could get out and enjoy the warm sun!

See everyone on Thursday at the banquet – Coach
